PLY LIGHT

A self-directed design project by Magnus Long which started in 2019 as an exploration of spiral-wound plywood tubes combined with LEDs to produce endearing light.

Presented at Material Matters, it is an illustration of Magnus’ current investigations into using digitally produced ‘junctions’ to connect engineered natural materials.

3D printed components in either Nylon or PLA from cornstarch have been used for their scalable production, surface finish and the ability to produce any angle of connector.

A larger installation of Ply Light is on display at the Lethaby Gallery at King’s Cross during LDF.
