Magnus studied Product and Furniture design at Nottingham Trent University before gaining a rigorous training in industrial design at Colebrook Bosson Saunders, where he worked during the development of the standard-setting Wishbone Monitor Arm. This experience honed his technical skills and instilled a focus on ergonomics that would carry through his career.

Looking for a broader understanding of the London design landscape, he worked at the esteemed independent retailer twentytwentyone. Here, he gained knowledge about contemporary and mid-century design whilst working on the product development of designs by established names like Michael Young, Jean Pierre Vitrac and William Plunkett.

Concurrently to this, Magnus had been creating his own designs including the award-winning Standing Hanger which garnering recognition in major publications whilst exhibiting the product in Milan and London. This exploratory period also led him to co-found prolific design collective Viable London, which quickly made a name for itself as ‘one to watch’, with work selected to exhibit at the London Design Museum alongside fellow designers including Max Lamb and Peter Marrigold.

In 2012, Magnus established his eponymous studio, starting with a commission to design furniture for the Central Saint Martins new and iconic King's Cross campus where he is also an Associate Lecturer. In turn this led to collaborations with Modus, Hitch Mylius and Lerival who were involved in the project.

In 2013 Magnus begun designing for The Conran Shop, becoming the first named designer for the brand with an extensive furniture collection which included the Cross Leg chair. The design won the inaugural Jonathan Hindle Award for Design Excellence and is now synonymous with the TCS as an iconic part of the brand’s catalogue.

Today, Magnus Long Studio continues to work on projects and commissions, collaborating with a diverse range of clients including contemporary upholsterers HitchMylius, Italian marble specialists Monitillo1980, and historic London retailer Heal's.
