Barricane
Chair
for
Morgan

In an age of hi-tech meshes, split rattan caning is the original. I was immediately drawn to the materials and process on my first visit to Morgan's factory. Whilst the frame requires technically sophisticated production, the soul of the chair begun with the simplicity, spring and tactility of split cane.
The original concept was to think of the armrest as a horizon line passing through a round 'sun' backrest with the arm-line partially visible as it passed behind the cane. The name Barricane refers to a cove in north Devon with parallel cliffs on either side, like a frame and reminiscent of the design's legs. In high summer the sun sets directly in front of the cove.
